Women Trauma-informed Counseling in Libertyville IL
You Don’t Have to Carry This Alone
If you're a woman who has experienced trauma, whether recently or in the distant past, you may feel like you're holding it all together on the outside while unraveling inside. Maybe you're struggling with anxiety, shame, guilt, or a constant sense of being "on edge." You might be exhausted by the effort it takes just to get through the day. If this resonates with you, please know: you're not broken, and you're not alone.
I’m Ashley Smith, LCSW, CADC, CCTP, and I offer trauma-informed counseling for women in Libertyville, IL. I create a space where you can feel safe, seen, and supported while you work through the pain and begin to rediscover your inner strength.
About Me: Compassionate, Personalized Support Rooted in Experience
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. But more than that, I’m someone who truly listens, with empathy, curiosity, and care. I understand how hard it can be to reach out, especially if past experiences have left you feeling unsafe or unheard. That’s why I meet each client where they are, honoring your pace, your story, and your goals.
At Authentic Pathways, I combine evidence-based approaches like CBT and somatic techniques with a deep belief in the power of the therapeutic relationship. Together, we’ll create a path forward that feels empowering, not overwhelming.
What You Might Be Going Through
Many of the women I work with are high-functioning on the surface, holding down jobs, caring for families, managing responsibilities, but beneath it all, they’re struggling with the invisible wounds of trauma.
You might relate if you:
Constantly feel anxious, hypervigilant, or emotionally numb
Struggle with low self-worth, perfectionism, or shame
Have difficulty trusting others or maintaining relationships
Feel disconnected from your body or your emotions
Use substances, food, or work to cope with difficult feelings
Keep wondering why you're not “over it” yet
These are natural responses to trauma, not personal failings. In therapy, we’ll explore your experiences with compassion and curiosity, not judgment.
What to Expect from Our Work Together
Our therapy sessions are centered around you, your needs, your pace, and your healing. From the very first session, you’ll be met with warmth, respect, and unconditional positive regard.
Depending on your needs and preferences, I may incorporate:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to shift unhelpful thought patterns
Somatic work to reconnect with your body and nervous system
Mindfulness-based practices to increase presence and emotional regulation
We’ll work together to build resilience, emotional safety, and a greater sense of agency. And we’ll go beyond just “coping”, we’ll help you reclaim your voice, your joy, and your sense of self.
The Impact of Healing
Trauma may have shaped your past, but it doesn’t have to define your future. Through our work together, many clients experience:
A calmer, more grounded nervous system
Stronger boundaries and healthier relationships
Greater confidence and self-acceptance
Increased clarity, energy, and emotional freedom
A renewed sense of meaning and purpose
I work with women throughout Libertyville, IL, and surrounding areas, offering both in-person and virtual sessions to meet you where you are, literally and emotionally.
